Joy Becher, Spring 2023

Joy Becher

In the Spring of 2023, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. degree in chemistry (4.0 GPA) and a B.A. degree in psychology (4.0 GPA), and a minor in Interdisciplinary Medicine. I received numerous honors and awards during my time at The University of Alabama, including the 2023 ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Student Award for research I conducted in Dr. Snowden’s organic synthesis/medicinal chemistry laboratory. Currently, I am working on publishing a novel theory on the underlying neurobiology of psychopathy. During my four years at UA, I served as Secretary, coach, and Vice President on the University of Alabama Ballroom Competition Team and competed at various ballroom competitions, including The Ohio Star Ball, where my dance partner and I became Gold-level American Smooth Champions. During these four years, we worked our way up from competing at the newcomer level to ultimately dance at the pre-champ level.  This fall, I will begin my graduate studies at ETH Zürich in Switzerland, studying pharmaceutical sciences to pursue a career in research and innovation of drugs.

Ashlyn Dull

In the Fall of 2022, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Interdisciplinary Medicine. I graduated with a Master of Science in Biology in Spring of 2023. I participated in Dr. Jenny’s research Lab my third and fourth year at UA. I am attending Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine starting in the Fall and I am so excited to continue my journey!!

Spencer Favor, Spring 2023

Spencer Elizabeth Favor

In the Spring of 2023, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences with a minor in Interdisciplinary Medicine and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Spanish. During my time at UA, I was honored to serve as a director of the Honors Action program in the Honors College and to be able to study abroad with UA in Spain. I was one of eight students accepted into the UAB Genetic Counseling program to complete a masters degree and I will start in the fall.

Juliana Fraundorf

Winter 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a major in biology and minors in psychology and interdisciplinary medicine. I was a member of Dr. Earley’s Animal Behavior Lab and spent my time outside of school, working as a pharmacy technician at DCH. I have gained acceptance to a few medical school programs and am excited to spend my gap semester working and getting some much-needed relaxation before matriculating to medical school in Fall 2023!

Phoebe Guidry

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors with my B.S. in Chemistry in the Spring of 2023. While at UA, I was involved with Bama Catholic, Gamma Sigma Epsilon, Dare to Diagnose, and the Pediatric Development Research Group. I also worked as a tutor for the Capstone Center of Student Success and was a 4-year member of the Million Dollar Band. I received 4 medical school acceptances and I have chosen to attend Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, GA in the Fall of 2023.

Lillian “Lilly” Slaughter

Winter 2022, I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with Minors in Spanish and Interdisciplinary Medicine. I was a member of the Dr. Horan’s Collaborative Care lab and Dr. Earley’s Animal Behavior Lab. Also, a member of the McCollough Leadership Board.  I have received acceptance into two medical school programs thus far and will attend medical school in the Fall of 2023.

Nathan Smith

In the Spring of 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with honors and a 4.0 GPA. I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in interdisciplinary medical studies. I will be finishing my MBA in healthcare management as a member of the Manderson College of Business. I plan to apply to medical school with hopes of beginning my medical journey the subsequent year.

Jessica Tabary

In the Spring 2023, I graduated Summa Cum Laude with two degrees, honors, and a 4.0 GPA. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. I was a member of Dr. Earley’s Integrative Animal Behavior Lab for four years, leading a project and becoming second author on our publication. I served on Project Health’s executive board as Vice President of Public Relations for four semesters and was a member of health hut for 7 semesters. I participated in the Art to Life program at Caring Day’s adult day care, and was inducted into Gamma Sigma Epsilon, Chemistry National Honor Society, in the Spring of 2022. I was chosen as an Arts & Sciences peer advisor and advised pre-health freshman at Bama Bound in 2022. This fall, I will be attending McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas to pursue a MD.
